I was recently in Turkey for vacation, and although it was my second time in the beautiful country, I still was delightfully surprised by the towns and cities I visited this time around. I still have so much more to discover. The culture and the atmosphere is something so unique with so many different influences. One of my stops was the city of Pamukkale which is a small town-like city.
I was there to see the famous travertines which were used as luxury thermal spas by the Romans many years ago. It still remains very well preserved and it is quiet a fascinating site. I had actually woken up extra early so I could watch the sunrise from the top of the 'Cotton Castle'. It was so dark when I left my hotel, the walk there was four kilometers. That plan immediately went downhill when all the dogs from peoples homes and strays on the street started barking viciously and blocking off streets because I was the only loca roaming the streets at that hour. For those who don't know I used to have a huge dog phobia as a child and pretty much into adulthood. Triggered, I was frozen in fear mid street. I waited until the sun came up and then continued on my merry way. It's funny how everything seems so much more frightening at night. A local was kind enough to give me a lift halfway up and I had the place pretty much to myself and got to see the balloons take off.
